With only a few episodes left to show, Neighbours has been cancelled after an incredible 37 years. There will be some recognisable characters back on Ramsay Street before the last goodbyes are said, which is dreadful news for fans of the Channel 5 soap opera. Daniel MacPherson, who plays Joel Samuels on the show, is one of them.

Toadie Rebecchi’s roommate on Neighbours for four years was Joel Samuels (played by Ryan Maloney).

He started dating Toadie’s future wife, Dee Bliss (Madeleine West), and had grand plans to explore the globe with her.

After earning his degree in marine biology, Joel was given the opportunity to work on a crew ship and cruise the globe.

Joel wanted Dee to accompany them, but she declined, so they said their final goodbyes at the marina before Joel departed permanently.

What happened to Neighbours’ Joel Samuels?

Joel actor Macpherson went on to star in other well-known series after leaving his Ramsay Street days in the past.

His first stop was the criminal thriller The Bill, where he played PC Cameron Tait for a year.

The actor, then 41, went on to star in Tripping Over, City Homicide, The Shannara Chronicles, Wild Boys, and Bad Mothers as a result.

Hugo was his most recent performance in the science fiction Apple TV+ drama Foundation, which debuted last year.

He has a three-year-old kid named Austin with Zoe Ventoura, a fellow Wild Boys actor, in December 2019.

Prior to their separation two years ago, the pair was married for five years.

In preparation for his role in the final week of Neighbours, MacPherson is now going back to his origins.

Joel returns to celebrate the momentous occasion with his old friend Toadie as he prepares to wed Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden).

The two need to catch up on a number of things, including how Toadie and their mutual friend Amy Greenwood (Jacinta Stapleton), who returned in 2020 after a 20-year absence, came to blows.

She left Apartment 30 and started to distance herself from him, leaving Toadie perplexed as to what he had done.

Amy has grown close to her lifelong friend, but will she reveal her feelings before the big event?

MacPherson said of his return to Neighbours: “Coming back here is the biggest head spin.

“My mind was blown even on the way out here. I haven’t been on the Neighbours set in twenty or so years.

“It was one of the most joyful periods of my life to come back and see all the faces, all my friends, and to get back on the sets.

My head is spinning because I came here when I was 18 and left when I was 21.

Every day this week at 6 o’clock on Channel 5, Neighbours continues.
