Hendrix’s lung transplant goes off without a hitch on the UK’s Neighbours next week, but a tragic twist of fate awaits.
These scenes will premiere in the United Kingdom on Monday, June 13th, and in Australia on Thursday, June 30th.
Hendrix Greyson’s last few weeks have been a whirlwind (Ben Turland).
His chronic cough revealed that he had sarcoidosis, which is usually curable. However, pulmonary fibrosis had already set in, most likely as a result of the toxic gases he inhaled while rushing into a blazing Erinsborough High to save lover Mackenzie (Georgie Stone). He needed a lung transplant within three years as a result of the progression.
When he and Mackenzie left for Sydney shortly after, Hendrix’s sister Alana (Molly Broadstock) knew something was wrong, and she and his father Pierce (Tim Robards) snooped through his bags and learned the truth about his health difficulties.
His entire family was incredibly supportive, and their outpouring of affection pushed Hendrix to propose to Mackenzie on the fly of the moment.
Their friends gave him and Mackenzie an engagement party back in Erinsborough, when he received a phone call informing him that a donor had already been identified!
With the transplant only a week away and Hendrix facing months of recovery, Hendrix and Mackenzie decided to move their wedding forward and get married right away.
Everything in Hendrix’s life seemed to be going swimmingly.
The young couple tie the wedding in a stunning ceremony accompanied by their entire family, including Mackenzie’s father Grant, in Tuesday’s UK episode (airing in Australia on Tuesday 28th June) (Paul Mercurio).
The day is wonderful, and Pierce has a surprise in store for the newlyweds when he announces he’s purchased them their own apartment so they can start married life together.
Hendrix prepares to go under the knife a few days later, despite almost messing up with the donor.
He hides his dread, but when Mackenzie, Pierce, and the Kennedys encircle him, he’s soothed by their continued support.
On the other hand, he learns that the surgery went well and that the lung transplant went smoothly. It’s the announcement that everyone has been waiting for.
Unfortunately, catastrophe is hovering just around the corner in Erinsborough, and a complication sends Hendrix into panic mode. It’s determined soon that his body is rejecting the transplanted lung, and he’s given only hours to survive.
Hendrix is forced to accept his fate while putting on a brave face. Hendrix surrounds himself with his loved ones in his Erinsborough hospital bed.
A once cocky private school snob, now adored by all, fights his final hours to make the most of the time he has left.
As he breathes his final breath, there won’t be a dry eye in the house.
