Since 1995, Toadie has been a fixture on Ramsay Street. He’s gone from a wayward kid with a fondness for practical jokes to a successful lawyer and doting father to three children – Nell (Scarlett Anderson), Hugo (John Turner), and adopted son Callum (Morgan Baker) – in his 27 years on screen.

His romantic life, on the other hand, has been a mixed bag for him. In 2003, he married his true love Dee Bliss (Madeleine West), but she vanished and was assumed dead after the car they were driving crashed into the sea.

Toadie and Sonya struck up a friendship soon after she arrived in Erinsborough in 2009. They married in 2013, had a daughter named Nell, and lived happily-ish for six years until Sonya’s unexpected death in 2019.

Toadie and Sonya’s marriage reached a snag in 2017 when a woman who looked eerily similar to his ex-wife Dee Bliss arrived (Madeleine West).

Andrea, a lookalike for Dee, had come to Erinsborough with the intention of defrauding Toadie.

After sleeping together, Andrea became pregnant, giving birth to Toadie’s second biological kid, Hugo.

Sonya was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer, meaning she only had weeks to live, a few years after Andrea’s birth nearly wrecked Toadie and Sonya’s relationship. Toadie was heartbroken when she died to her illness in March 2019.

Despite numerous attempts into the dating world, the Toad took a long time to locate another stable spouse.

He reunited briefly with Dee Bliss (Madeleine West), who was finally revealed to be alive after all, but the two concluded that their lives had moved on and that now was not the time for a romance.

Rose Walker (Lucy Durak) and he had a strong bond and shared a fondness for practical jokes, but she still had affections for her divorced husband.

Toadie and Audrey Hamilton (Zahra Newman) were having a nice time until he realised she’d stolen a winning lottery ticket from a dying man; and the less said about Angela Lane (Amanda Harrison), the better.

Melanie (Lucinda Cowden) returned to Ramsay Street in 2021 after a 30-year hiatus and accepted a position as Toadie’s new PA. After a lot of flirtation, Mel and Toadie ended up in a covert relationship.

While it hasn’t always been easy, and Toadie has been surprised by Mel’s immaturity on several times, he has been thrilled with how well she interacts with Nell and Hugo.

Despite their disagreements, their relationship has survived, the most recent of which occurred when Mel believed Toadie was prioritising Amy’s (Jacinta Stapleton) feelings over her own. Nonetheless, she’s brought Toadie some much-needed joy.

The news that Hendrix’s (Ben Turland) body has rejected his lung transplant and he just has hours to live arrives on Ramsay Street the following week.

As Jimi dies away, the street comes together in mourning, and friendships are cemented as people console those who knew Hendrix best.

Melanie’s kind care comforts Toadie as he copes with the devastating news.

The Rebecchi family has been through a lot of grief, but this time Mel is there to keep them together.

Toadie is overcome with emotion when he sees her soothing Nell, and he is grateful to have such a wonderful woman in his life.

Toadie proposes to Melanie in the kitchen of No. 30! Just like Hendrix’s proposal to Mackenzie (Georgie Stone) came out of nowhere after his diagnosis, Toadie proposes to Melanie in the kitchen of No. 30!

She’s taken aback, and she’s happy that Toadie feels so strongly, but she’s worried that the proposal is a knee-jerk reaction to the recent upheaval.

Mel believes that, as much as she loves him, they would be hurrying things if they got engaged right now. For starters, they’d be bypassing a couple key steps – they haven’t even moved in together yet.

So Melanie counters with a counter-offer – they don’t get married, but she does move in.

Melanie, welcome to Number 30!
