Neighbours’ final scene with Kylie and Jason Donovan to leave fans ‘welling up’

When it was announced earlier this year that Neighbours would be ending, fans were devastated. With only a few months till the much-loved Australian soap closes, the final episode has been teased. Charlene Robinson will be played by Kylie Minogue, and her show sweetheart Jason Donovan will play Scott Robinson. Although the specifics of how the serial will finish are being kept under wraps, it is expected to be an emotional finale.

With nearly three decades of history, how will the Channel 5 soap come to an end in August?

Charlene and Scott, a power couple, will appear in the last episode of the series on August 1.

Despite the best efforts of the show’s producers, the show’s demise was unavoidable after Channel 5 withdrew its financing to keep it afloat.

Will the comeback of the two now-famous stars, who left the programme in 1988 and 1989, respectively, spawn a prospective spin-off?

Jason and Kylie are supposed to return to Ramsay Street and pronounce the words that every ardent fan wants to hear: “Home.”

“Everyone is heartbroken that the programme is coming to an end,” a source told The Sun, “but they are determined to go out on a high.”

“Kylie and Jason have such strong links to the series that they didn’t even think twice about returning,” they continued.

It’s going to be a tearjerker, and the tidbit of news is going to raise a lot of questions for dedicated viewers, such as where they’ve been since they left Ramsay Street.

“The last scene will make viewers well up as Charlene and Scott return to the street and announce ‘we’re home,'” the source stated.

“The bosses purposefully wrote the screenplay so that Neighbours could return in a few years if anyone wanted to save it.”

The duo teased their return in early May by posting excerpts from a script on their Instagram profiles.

The singer of Spinning Around had earlier expressed how “emotional” it was to return to the set of the hit show.

“It was nice and touching,” she stated in an interview with Today Extra. It was quite an experience driving down Ramsay Street.”

Despite the fact that it had been a long time since she had worked on the drama, returning to set felt quite familiar.

“First and foremost, where has all that time gone?” she exclaimed upon her return. Second, everything appears to be same. Finally, Scott, Charlene, Jane, Harold – it all came back to me.

“There was a lot of discussion about memories and time travel.”

“Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours pair, and it would not feel right to end the programme without them,” executive producer of the show Jason Herbison stated on his Neighbours account on the same day Kylie and Jason posted on social media.

“We are overjoyed that Jason and Kylie have returned home to play a pivotal role in the series finale.” For them, for us, and I’m sure for our viewers, it’s been an emotional event.”

Neighbours airs on Channel 5 weekdays at 1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m.
