Death teased in first promo for Neighbours finale

A new Neighbours promo teases that a death may be on the way before the show’s August conclusion, saying that “it’s time to say goodbye” to “an Aussie classic.”

10 Peach, which has been airing Neighbours in Australia since 2011, has uploaded a Neighbours advertisement to its Twitter account, hinting at the show’s demise.

There are only two and a half months until the show’s final episode airs on August 1st, and we’re in for some big returns and heartbreaking stories.

The promo begins with an image of the iconic Ramsay Street sign, followed by a beautiful promotional shot of the show’s longest-serving current characters, Karl (Alan Fletcher), Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou), Susan (Jackie Woodburne), Toadie (Ryan Moloney), and Paul (Stefan Dennis).

The trailer features Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne, who have played Karl and Susan Kennedy since 1994.

“I’m going to miss this place,” Alan adds, and Jackie says, “it’s time to say goodbye.”

24 former Neighbours cast members were recently announced to return for the show’s final weeks, but the latest trailer suggests that there may be many more.

We see stills of three of the previously announced returnees – Joel Samuels (Daniel MacPherson), Izzy Hoyland (Natalie Bassingthwaighte), and Scott and Charlene Robinson – after a title board asking “Who returns?” (Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue).

It also features three characters who have yet to be confirmed as returning: Mike Young (Guy Pierce), Beth Brennan (Natalie Imbruglia), and Donna Freedman (Natalie Imbruglia) (Magot Robbie).

Are they just red herrings, or will the trio return in addition to the events already announced?

Even though Ned Willis (Ben Hall) has just recently left Ramsay Street – his farewell scenes have yet to broadcast in Australia – he has already been named as one of the returnees.

Could we see Ned and Beth return to Erinsborough before the finale?

The teaser also implies that at least one character will say their goodbyes before the film ends.

Before scenes of sad mourners at a funeral, a number of pallbearers carrying a casket, and a mourner planting a red rose on a cemetery, the promo asks, “Who departs forever?”

There are no current or former Neighbours characters among the mourning.

Might these be red herring pictures to keep viewers guessing who died, or could the unrecognisable characters be pals that an ex-Ramsay Street resident has met after leaving?

There are a plethora of possibilities, with so many characters expected to return before the end – or could it be a current Neighbours favourite who departs in the last months?

Because 10 Peach only airs episodes from Monday to Thursday, Australian viewers are presently one month behind UK viewers.

However, from Monday, June 13th, the Australian network will begin airing double episodes of Neighbours, allowing it to catch up with UK broadcasts in time for the finale.
