Amanda Holden has claimed that Kylie Minogue called her before filming her role on Australian serial Neighbours.

The 51-year-old Britain’s Got Talent judge will appear on Neighbours later this month as part of a plotline shot in London.

Holden plays Harriet Robinson, Harlow’s aunt, who is played by Jemma Donovan, daughter of Neighbours legend Jason Donovan.

When the singer found out her friend was appearing on Neighbours, she said she got a call from Minogue — who, of course, starred in the show in the 1980s.

“Kylie called me while I was on set to ask, ‘How’s it going?’ ‘How are things going?’ Holden asked the Mirror.

“She called because she knew I was shooting,” she continued. I’m a huge fan of hers. “We refer to each other as BFFs.”

Holden’s appearance follows the cancellation of Neighbours after nearly 40 years on the air due to a rights deal with UK broadcaster Channel 5 expiring.

Following the news, Minogue tweeted her gratitude to the show, adding, “I’ll be forever grateful for the experience and the relationships I met on Neighbours.”

“We had no clue how popular the show would become or how deeply people would care about it.”

Neighbours was a television institution that drew massive audiences during its peak in the 1980s and 1990s, and was frequently more popular in the United Kingdom than in its native Australia.

When the episode in which Minogue and Donovan’s characters ultimately married aired in the UK in 1988, it drew 19.6 million viewers.

By 2021, viewing figures had plummeted, with only 1.5 million people turning in for each show in the United Kingdom.

Several Australian actors, including the Hemsworth brothers, Natalie Imbruglia, and Margot Robbie, as well as Kylie and Jason, got their start in Neighbours.
