Rebekah Elmaloglou hopes for UK drama casting after Neighbours axe

As Neighbours prepares for its final week of programming, an era is coming to a close. Rebekah Elmaloglou, the star of the Australian soap, isn’t quite ready to hang up her soap boots, though.

The actress who plays Terese Willis revealed her ambition to join a UK-based soap opera in an interview with Inside Soap.

She remarked, “They have some soaps in England, so to me they have a huge, popular notion, massive.” Why not work on a soap opera in the UK?

She also lauded the UK for having great “police” shows, saying that she and her husband were hooked on the Sarah Lancashire drama Happy Valley. Rebekah stated, “I’d love to play a detective or a cop in one of those types of series,” in an effort to land a part opposite the former Coronation Street actress.

Terese, played by Rebekah, can still be seen in Erinsborough through July 29. She will be joined by actors like Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, who will return in their venerable roles for the show’s conclusion.

Following this, Cash in the Attic will be broadcast on Channel 5 at its usual 6 o’clock time slot. Home and Away, another Australian soap opera, will move back by 30 minutes to take over Neighbours’ 1:45pm time slot.

The head of Channel 5 recently disclosed the reasons behind his decision to cancel the well-liked Australian soap.

Frow acknowledged that continuing to produce the show for a UK audience was an option, but added that he chose to utilise the money for “UK shows,” which he believes is a better use of the resources.

He told Radio Times, “Or I could spend the money on other things, which is what I opted to do.” “I can spend the Neighbours money better on UK shows,” you say.

Neighbours, a show that had been a mainstay of UK daytime television for 37 years, was controversially dropped by Channel 5 in favour of “original UK drama,” which the broadcaster believes has a “strong appeal” for viewers.
