When Hendrix Greyson (Ben Turland) sadly dies following problems with his lung transplant in Neighbours, it sends shockwaves through Ramsay Street. The death is so devastating that it has caused all of the residents, especially Toadie, to reconsider their lives.
Things appear to be OK when Hendrix is taken into surgery following their fantasy wedding and emerges relatively uninjured. However, when his body rejects his new lungs, things take a dramatic turn.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to save him, so he must grit his teeth and say his tearful goodbyes while gritting his teeth through the pain.
The sudden tragedy has shocked Ramsay Street, and Toadie (Ryan Moloney) in particular is distraught. Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden) provides him with comfort, and she is only too willing to help him out. While his heart is hurting from loss, he isn’t naive to the fact that Melanie, the sweetheart, is the one who keeps him going when things become bad.
At the very least, Hendrix’s death serves as a sharp reminder that life is never predictable and always has its own narrative twists. Toadie is acutely aware of this, and when he sees Mel soothing an emotional Nell, he is overcome with emotion and realises how essential Mel is in his life. He can’t face the notion of her being taken away from him.
In a shocking gesture, he proposes to Melanie, who was utterly unprepared.
However, she has a surprise in store for him: it’s a no. She expresses her concern that he is only proposing as a result of losing Hendrix. She proposes a solution that will bring them closer together, but will Toadie accept it or will his shattered pride prevent him from understanding that she is correct?
Scenes will begin airing on Channel 5 on Monday, June 13th.
