Neighbours boss Jason Herbison addresses Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan’s ‘limited’ dialogue in finale

The executive producer of Neighbours, Jason Herbison, has explained the timing of everything as the cause of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan’s sparse on-screen interaction at the serial opera’s grand finale.

The storied couple, who became famous in the 1980s on the Australian soap opera as Charlene and Scott, mounted the ultimate comeback in the final episode of the programme.

They parked on the street, got out, and walked around the street they used to live on while listening to their 1988 song, Especially For You.

While most of us choked up with nostalgia for the moment that had been in the making for over 30 years, several people criticised the actors’ lack of conversation, especially Kylie, during the memorable scene.

Yes, I do.

Some people even suggested that Kylie might be paid per phrase.

However, Jason Herbison, the executive producer of Neighbours, has since disproved such reports, saying that Kylie and Jason were only supposed to make a “brief appearance” because they didn’t want to “overshadow” the current cast members.

Exactly when we thought we could no longer adore them!

Additionally, the timing of when Kylie and Jason shot their parts was crucial because the episode’s script hadn’t yet been completed at the time. As a result, Jason and his crew had to make sure that whatever was shot on that day could be seamlessly incorporated into the finished product.

As Jason said to TV Tonight, “We also filmed their scenes before I had written the show, so everything we filmed had to fit in with that.”

“I hate to see Kylie taking any flak; on the day, she was nothing short of fantastic.”

We think Kylie and Jason did a fantastic job, and what good sports they are for finding the time to honour Neighbours in this way despite their hectic schedules!
