Kylie Minogue has revealed that she was put under “quite a bit of pressure” to appear in the upcoming Neighbours finale episode.
After the long-running Australian soap was cancelled earlier this year, the 54-year-old popstar opened up about the highly anticipated star-stunned finale to send off the long-running Australian serial.
Kylie rose to stardom as Charlene Robinson on the serial opera opposite Jason Donovan, 54, who portrayed Scott Robinson.
After Channel 5 dropped financing for the show and no other broadcaster could be found, the two stars will reunite for a special episode to mark the end of the show.
Kylie and Jason will return to Ramsay Street as their characters, and the Can’t Get You Out Of My Head star has now spoken publicly about going to Australia to film the sequences.
The singer revealed her early days on set of the Australian serial after landing the part in 1986 on Seth Meyers’ Late Night With Seth Meyers show yesterday.
“We’re wrapping up the show, and there was a lot of demand for me to go back, so I shot my parts back in Australia,” she explained.
Kylie attributed her huge success as a performer to the programme, claiming that its popularity “exploded” while she was a part of it.
“I was only in the programme for two and a half years, but that’s when it erupted,” she remarked. It caused such a stir in England that I’ve had it with me ever since.”
She remarked, “You’re in people’s homes, the show was played twice a day.” “People would skip school and adjust their office hours because no one could figure out how to set the VHS.”
Guy Pearce, who scored his breakout role on the programme in 1986 as troubled high-schooler Mike Young, was also returning for the finale, according to Kylie.
“Another person you may have met on this programme, Guy Pearce, is in the same play, so he’s just finished filming his cameo as well,” she continued. “Everyone is going to cry.”
Guy, 54, who plays Mike Young in the film, was seen riding a motorcycle and wearing a leather jacket while smiling and joking.
During Pearce’s three-year stay on the drama, the two played pals as Kylie and Jason rose to prominence as the show’s most famous couple.
“Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple, and it would not feel right to end the programme without them,” executive producer Jason Herbison said before.
“We are overjoyed that Jason and Kylie have returned home to play a pivotal role in the series finale.” For them, for us, and I’m sure for our viewers, it’s been an emotional event.”
On August 1, the final episode of Neighbours will air.
