Fans were surprised to learn earlier this month that Australia’s long-running soap Neighbours had been formally cancelled after 37 years on the air.
Delta Goodrem, who portrayed Nina Tucker on the beloved TV drama, paid tribute to her time on the show on Tuesday.
Delta, 37, posted an emotional message to followers on Instagram alongside a video montage.
‘It truly is the end of an era…. the programme was a true school of the industry for so many people’s journeys in the industry, including mine!’ She started writing her long caption.
‘The first time I heard Nina perform Born to Try stayed with me forever, the beginning of it all…’ she continued.
‘And then returning to Erinsborough years later… you always felt at ease going across the set!’
Delta wrapped up her message by praising the cast and crew before quoting the show’s renowned theme tune, “Everybody Needs Good Neighbours.”
Delta played Nina from 2002 to 2003 before taking a break after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s cancer.
She later returned in 2004 and 2005, as well as in 2015 for the show’s 30th anniversary.
Delta won a TV Week Logie for The Most Popular New Female Talent in 2003, thanks to the popularity of her role.
The long-running serial was cancelled last week, and the final episode will be taped in June, according to Network 10 and Fremantle, the show’s producer.
‘It is with sadness that we are confirming that Neighbours will cease production in the summer, after over 37 years and nearly 9000 episodes broadcast,’ they said in a statement to MailOnline.
‘We presently have no choice but to put the show on hold following the loss of a key broadcast partner in the UK, despite our efforts to find other funding.’
‘Since the news broke, everyone at Neighbours has been touched by the outpouring of love and support from the audience.’ The show has brought a sunny piece of Australia into the homes of millions of people all over the world, as well as launching the careers of dozens of household celebrities.
‘However, as this chapter of Ramsay Street draws to a close, we pledge to do everything in our power to give the show the send-off it so richly deserves.’
