After 37 seasons, Neighbours has concluded production. The final episode aired in Australia last night, July 28, before being televised in the UK today on Channel 5 at 9 p.m.

After being cancelled by Channel 5 earlier this year, much to the dismay of fans, the long-running soap opera came to an end.

Beverley McGarvey, the head of Channel 10’s Australian network for Neighbours, has indicated there’s a “small” possibility we’ll visit Ramsey Street again, whether it be in one-off special episodes or reunion programmes.

“I also wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Fremantle would one day be able to construct a setting where they can somehow bring it back. It has already occurred to shows, “She spoke.

“There’s huge desire for content everywhere,” the author continued, “so I still cling to the thin, optimistic hope that would be achievable.”

When the Neighbours finale aired on 10 Peach last night, it garnered the soap’s greatest ratings in 13 years.

With 873,000 “five-city metro” viewers (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth) and 1.2 million viewers nationwide, the special episode outperformed ratings forecasts. It peaked at 1.4 million viewers, making it the show’s most-watched episode since 2009. In Australia, the programme typically draws 100,000 viewers per episode.

With major former Neighbours performers like Kylie Minogue, Margot Robbie, and Guy Pearce all returning to say goodbye, the soap has been working tirelessly to give it a finale befitting of its nearly 40 years on TV.
