Kate Ritchie has confirmed that she will be making her long-awaited comeback to acting nine years after leaving Home and Away.

The judge for Australia’s Got Talent will co-star in the new series The Claremont Murders with Erik Thompson, Channel Seven revealed during their Upfronts event on Tuesday.

One of Australia’s most infamous murders is the subject of the two-part drama, which has already finished filming in Perth and will air in 2023.

The network said in a statement that the disappearance of three young women in Perth in the late 1990s “started a 25-year inquiry by the police and one persistent journalist, all determined to pursue justice.”

On Wednesday, Kate posted a teaser image for The Claremont Murders on Instagram along with a comment mentioning her co-star Aaron Glenane.

Working on this production was “such a humble experience,” she wrote. “To be trusted with telling such a narrative while standing next to you on stage. Peter Andrikidis is in charge.

Kate hasn’t had a scripted television role since she briefly returned to the 2013 season of Home and Away as Sally Fletcher.

News on Kate’s radio
Following a “hectic year,” Kate stated just a few days ago that she would be leaving her Nova radio show Kate, Tim & Joel but would return in 2023.

“This past year has been crazy for my family and I, as some of you may have heard from me on the show today. Like many of you, I have experienced a lot of change in a short period of time, and it has had an impact,” she remarked.

“In order to give myself and my family more time to reenergize, I’ve decided to take a brief break. With Tim [Blackwell] and Joel [Creasey] and the gang, our Nova show is simply chugging ahead and getting better and better. You, our listeners, are dear to us and seem to put up with us.

Kate continued by making the assurance that the hiatus would only be short and that she will return to the airways in 2019.

Thank you for your support and understanding, team, Nova, and all of our wonderful listeners, she said. “Even though it will only be for a brief while, I will miss you all… In 2023, we’ll play a game of Quick Draw together.
