Bernie Winter of Coronation Street could get a jail term for her scheme involving Shelly Rossington.
Viewers of Coronation Street believe they understand how Jane Hazlegrove’s character, Bernie Winter, will escape going to jail.
Fans of the ITV soap opera witnessed the Weatherfield resident appear in court following charges of stealing merchandise in recent scenes.
The judge sentenced Bernie to prison on Monday night’s episode, despite her son Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) protests, pointing out that he was terminally ill.
Later, Paul reiterated that he might not live that long, and Bernie admitted to her kids that she might spend up to six months in prison.
As Paul’s mental illness worsens, viewers think they have figured out a way to keep his mother out of jail.
Taking to Twitter, @cannylad23 commented: “Bernie should go on the run #Corrie”
@macnamara60 said: “Bernie’s going to do a runner, isn’t she?”
@ASuperGav asked: “Oh, oh. Is Bernie gonna do a runner?”
However, others believe she may enlist the help of a former resident, and Bernie’s doppelganger, Fern (Gabrielle Glaister).
“She should pay her look-alike to take her place,” tweeted @msjanebond007.
“I think they need to find that woman who looks like Bernie and pay her,” said @CONN70D.
Actor Peter Ash suggested that Paul’s departure might occur sooner than fans anticipate, even though there isn’t an official date yet.
During her October appearance on Good Morning Britain, the soap star disclosed that the cast had begun filming their Christmas story.
“It’s really quite a sad Christmas for Paul,” he said. It is discovered that he only has six to twelve months left.
“So, it’s looking likely this could be his last Christmas.
“For him, it’s just making the most of every little moment and spending it with the family and kids.”
