When Channel 5 announced that Neighbours would be ending after 37 years, fans were upset.

The show has been a staple of Australian and British television for decades, but it will be ending its run on Ramsay Street later this year.

Some A-list celebs are returning to the drama that launched their careers to commemorate the momentous conclusion.

Margot Robbie, Liam Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, and Jesse Spencer are among the stars that earned their big break on the show.

Although Ramsay Street has a few more months of drama ahead of it, all of its big stories have now come to an end.

Why is Neighbours coming to an end?

Producers Network 10 and Fremantle were unable to obtain alternative funding after Channel 5 decided to discontinue supporting the show.

“It is with sadness that we are confirming that Neighbours will cease production in June, after nearly 37 years and approximately 9,000 episodes broadcast,” a Fremantle spokesperson said.

“We presently have no choice but to put the show on hold following the loss of a key broadcast partner in the UK, despite our efforts to find alternative funding.”

Despite the fact that the show was still attracting around 1.2 million viewers per day in the UK, Channel 5 stated it would discontinue showing it in February 2022.

The network, however, stated that the decision was made in order to transfer resources to new UK series.

When does Neighbours come to an end?

On Monday, August 1, 2022, the final episode of Neighbours will air.

It will continue to air on Channel 5, but the show will be cancelled in both the UK and Australia.

Which A-listers are returning for the final episode of Neighbours?

It was announced earlier this month that Hollywood star Guy Pearce would return to Ramsey Street for the last episode.

“It’s incredibly exciting and odd at the same time being back on set again, but it feels like coming home,” Guy told the Metro.

“It’s when my professional journey began.” I’d been asked to return on several occasions over the years and debated whether it was the proper thing to do, but once I realised the show was coming to an end, I knew I had no choice.

“While I’ve reconnected with many of the cast members from the show over the years, there’s nothing like being back here with everyone.”

He’ll be joined by Kylie Minogue, who will return to the soap that started it all.

She acknowledged that she felt compelled to return because she had already finished filming her scenes for the previous episode.

“When I was 19, I finished school, signed up for the dole, because I thought, ‘I’m never going to get a job,’ but I got this position on Neighbours,” the singer said on Late Night With Seth Meyers.

“They’re wrapping up the programme, and I was under a lot of pressure to return, so I shot my sequences.”

Kylie’s Charlene married Jason Donovan’s Scott in one of the show’s most memorable episodes, with the latter also returning.

“Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours pair, and it would not feel right to end the programme without them,” the Neighbours official Twitter account said in March.

“We’re overjoyed that Jason and Kylie have returned home to play a pivotal role in the series finale…”
