Alan Fletcher, star of Neighbours, has teased the intense secrecy surrounding the show’s approaching finale, stating that even he doesn’t know what will happen.

The long-running Australian serial is set to screen its final episode in August, after it was reported last month that the show had been cancelled due to the decision of UK broadcaster Channel 5 to stop funding it.

In an interview with Sky News, Alan, who has played Karl Kennedy since 1994, talks about recording the last episodes while keeping tight-lipped.

“Well, if I knew,” he added, “I would dearly want to [provide a spoiler].” “Here’s the deal… I can’t tell you something about which I am unaware. That last episode’s ink is still drying; they waited as long as they could to write it since they didn’t know who would return… and now they’re keeping it so closely guarded.

“I’m not sure when I’ll find out because it’s such top-secret information. I imagine it’ll be three weeks before the event, and my script will arrive in my mailbox. So I could call you up on the sly then, “He made a joke.

“Whatever that last scene is,” Alan continued, “everyone will show up and fill the studio.”

“It’s occurred previously when performers have left the show and they’re recording their final moment and it’s just two people on the set, you know, talking their love, and there’s 150 people in the studio, in the dark, waiting for the sequence to conclude,” he said.

“This is going to be incredible, I’m sure. It’ll be quite emotional. I believe that many people will be stumped for words. They will be at a loss for what to do. It’ll be like, “What are we going to do now?””

The actress did confirm that filming will end on June 10th, revealing: “I’m taking a break from Neighbours until mid-May, after which I’ll return to do the final four weeks of the show, which promise to be – and this is a bold statement – possibly the best episodes of Neighbours ever made, thanks to a number of returning guests.

“It’s going to be a complete filmmaking hurricane, and I think the fans will adore it.”
