When issues with Hendrix Greyson’s lung transplant turn catastrophic in Neighbours, the fairy-tale of Hendrix Greyson (Ben Turland) and Mackenzie Hargreaves (Georgie Stone) is destined to come to a heartbreaking end. The youthful hope of love is unfortunately short-lived.
Hendrix and Mackenzie barely had time to adjust to married life after their frantic fantasy wedding when Hendrix is summoned in for his lung transplant. It’s excellent news for him that it’s arrived so quickly, and he’s both delighted and nervous – this may be the new lease on life he’s been looking for, but the risks are significant.
Things are stressful as he prepares for surgery, and his loved ones are waiting even longer. The hours pass, and their nails are bitten to the quick, but when the doctor verifies that despite the risks, he has miraculously survived, they are all filled with thanks. He and Mackenzie are well on their way to finding their happily ever after.
His health, however, abruptly deteriorates. His body is rejecting his new lungs, which means he is certain to die. The news that he barely had hours to live astounds the newlyweds.
Hendrix battles through the pain to say his heartfelt farewell in the time he has left. Hendrix loses his battle and dies later that day.
Without him, Ramsay Street is a sadder place. As she blames herself, Sadie’s guilt is at an all-time high. Friends unite around Mackenzie, with Harlow providing all the assistance she can and Kiri providing a shoulder to cry on for Chloe.
Zara interrupts their loss by showing them the secret video Hendrix was working on, and their despair fades away as they see him come back to life on the TV screen.
Mackenzie is left to plan two memorial services for Hendrix, and the pressure is building as she grieves. How will Mackenzie cope without Hendrix when she’s on the point of breaking?
Scenes will begin airing on Channel 5 on June 13th.
