Kylie Minogue, a former Neighbours star, has spoken out about returning to Erinsborough ahead of the Australian soap’s finale.
Kylie confirmed earlier this year that she and her on-screen husband Jason Donovan would be reprising their popular role as Charlene Robinson, which she played for two years in the 1980s.
Now, as fans prepare to say their goodbyes to Neighbours after 37 years on the air, Kylie has revealed how “emotional” it was to return to the show that arguably launched her career.
She told Today Extra, “It was lovely and emotional” (via MailOnline). “It was quite something driving into Ramsay Street.”
“First, where has all that time gone?” Kylie said when asked about her reaction to being back on set. Second, everything appears to be identical. Finally, Scott, Charlene, Jane, Harold – it all came back to me.”
Kylie is keeping mum for the time being about how Charlene and Scott will be featured in the final episodes of Neighbours. But what she could say was how much reminiscing was going on.
She continued, “There was a lot of talking about memories and going back in time.”
Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison revealed earlier this month how simple it was to recruit Kylie and Jason for the show’s final goodbye.
“Neither Kylie nor Jason required any persuasion,” he said. “They both value the show and the unique role it has played in their lives.”
“I was overjoyed when they said yes because it’s a lovely show of respect for Neighbours.” Ending the show without them didn’t feel right.”
