Sam Frost, a star of Home and Away, has spoken out about concerns that the pandemic may force the serial opera to discontinue totally.
Australia and the UK have different scheduling for the soap opera. Back home in Australia, Channel 5 only airs Home and Away twice a week, but the show still airs four evenings a week as planned.
The topic of whether Home and Away would finally go off the air has been raised since the show’s production was halted in March. Sam Frost, who plays Jasmine Delaney, discussed the prospect this week in an Australian conversation with Fitzy & Wippa of Nova 96.9.
“I don’t know, it just depends on when we can come back,” she said. “They obviously want us back as soon as possible, but how many completed episodes we have, I don’t know.”
“We were pretty far behind with the bushfires and there were a couple of cast members that were out with family issues,” the actress continued. We are lagging behind somewhat.
“I don’t know this, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we had to complete a few episodes every week or so. What they’re going to do is unknown to me.”
A statement guaranteeing that Home and Away “will be back” was published following the announcement that the show was ceasing production due to “increasing logistical hurdles related to the COVID-19 situation”.
“We will overcome this together because we are in this together. Remain secure and well. From everyone at Home and Away, with love,” it said.
