In the aftermath of Nikau (Kawakawa Fox–Reo) almost being run over by a threatening driver, the Paratas are on high alert, no doubt driven by the beef gang with Tane (Ethan Browne). The brothers take turns patrolling the house for more attacks, but for a couple of days all is quiet.
Peace does not last long, though, as one morning a brick is suddenly hurled through their front window. He finds a note attached to it as Tane retrieves the brick and quickly folds it up, not wanting his family to be concerned with his mess any more.
Ari (Rob Kipa–Williams), however, is suspicious when Tane leaves the house at random, and follows him. Tane is soon faced with both Paul’s bad news and his brother showing up. Tane is being pushed by the gang into another job, which comes with a high risk level.
Ari claims he needs to join his little brother on the job, considering his current criminal record. When he asks Mac (Emily Weir) if she can look after Nikau while they are abroad, however, he can’t understand the reality, she’s full of fear of their safety.
She is adamant that they can’t go, especially when Ari admits that if something goes wrong and they are injured, he won’t be able to contact her. To make matters worse, Nik soon realises that once the brothers are gone, something is up.
Having been put in an impossible situation, Mac tries his best to stall Nikau, but he soon loses his patience. He eventually gives her an ultimatum-either she tells him the truth about where his uncles have gone, or he gets involved with the police.
