Mackenzie (Emily Weir) is at a loss after learning that Salt is on the verge of bankruptcy due to rising bills, including her insurance company refusing to pay her following the chemical assault. Dean (Patrick O’Connor) tries to help by dialling their father’s number, but he isn’t available.
When Rick Booth (Mark Lee) calls her up and offers to buy Salt from her for a’reasonable price,’ Mackenzie is furious.
Mackenzie is sensitive to everything in the restaurant, so a cancellation of a reservation irritates her. To make matters worse, Ryder (Lukas Radovich) reveals that he saw Dean Salt’s accounts, leading Mackenzie to believe she no longer has any allies.
When confronted with some unpleasant truths, Mackenzie realises she needs to do more than cut staff hours — she needs to fire someone. Mackenzie (Jacqui Purvis) calls Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) in and tells her that the restaurant has a ‘last in, first out’ policy, so she has to let her go.
Felicity, on the other hand, decides not to take this situation lying down and returns to Salt later, insistent on continuing to work there. Felicity and Mackenzie get into an argument, with the bartender declaring she may work as much as she wants – but she won’t get paid.
When a supplier refuses Mackenzie’s request for seafood, Felicity knows it’s time to take her boss out for a beer and a chat. Felicity claims she’s had an idea after learning the truth about Salt – private underground poker sessions at the restaurant. Mackenzie laughs, only to realise Felicity is serious…
