Home and Away’s real-life couple Sophie Dillman and Patrick O’Connor spoke about falling in love while looking at the soap together.

The actors, who play Ziggy Astoni and Dean Thompson, told TV Week that they couldn’t be happier with their relationship, and Sophie explained that becoming friends first helped to make them stronger as a couple.

“We were work buddies first, and it’s helped us work well together now, so we’re lucky in that regard,” she said.

“It’s nice to have a relationship built on friendship. At the core we are best mates first and we treat each other like that, but it’s also made our relationship stronger starting out that way.”

In the meantime, Patrick said they were feeling “comfortable with each other” on the set.

“It’s pretty chilled,” he said. “If we go out as a couple, we’ll be spotted by fans, but [fame] hasn’t changed us too much.

“The fans of the UK are hectic and they love to talk about everything and about us, too! But I think Sophie is a great actress, and it’s a nice feeling on the set to know that you’re relaxed with each other.”

On the other hand, Sophie and Patrick’s on-screen characters have experienced a tough time together in recent months, with Ziggy and Dean breaking up after the truth came out about Dean’s involvement in the murder of Ross Nixon.
