Neighbours’ In upcoming UK episodes, Curtis Perkins saves Aubrey Laing’s grandma Shannon.
Shannon (Francesca Waters) denies having hearing problems in the dramatic moment, which is part of the show’s current hearing loss storyline.
Shannon failed to make a deadline after Jane Harris attempted to arrange homeschooling aid for Aubrey, who had lately been expelled (Etoile Little). Curtis (Nathan Borg) suspected Shannon of having hearing problems this week, but she responded angrily when he tried to bring it up.
Curtis continues to believe Shannon is deaf in later scenes, and chats with her again with the help of a concerned Aubrey.
Shannon continues to deny that anything is wrong, but she doesn’t hear a car approaching from behind and comes dangerously close to getting hit by it during the talk. Curtis, fortunately, is on hand to save Shannon.
Shannon agrees to have her hearing tested as a result of this.
Shannon is advised that she requires a hearing aid, but she must be persuaded to purchase one. She explains that she’s having trouble processing all that’s going on and is acutely aware of her age.
Shannon, on the other hand, is reassured by Curtis, who explains that getting a hearing aid may improve her relationship with her granddaughter Aubrey. It leads to an epiphany.
Nathan Borg and Francesca Waters, who are both hard of hearing in real life, were previously complimented by executive producer Jason Herbison for helping to “convey this narrative truthfully.”
