MATT EVANS: Good day, everyone. Matt Evans is my name. On “Home and Away,” I play Theo Poulos. So, I was enjoying a cup of coffee on my balcony when Sophie Dillman texted me to congratulate me. And I was— completely oblivious to what she was talking about. Although I was aware that the nominations would be announced that weekend, it all made sense. As a result, I immediately address her as a.

But, yeah, after that, I called my parents and all that. And it was— I mean, it was really exciting because it was something I hadn’t expected to happen. I was like—yeah, I was very taken aback by it. So far, it’s been a crazy roller coaster ride. But, yeah, I’m incredibly grateful. But, yes, I’m still a little taken aback.

Oh, it’s incredible. Yes, there have been a lot of talented persons in this category. And, as you may recall, Chris Hemsworth also won it back in the day. So many people have come through and done a variety of things as a result of this. So it’s just— yeah, it’s a fantastic category to be in because it’s so exciting, you know? It’s as if new people are branching out and breaking into the industry.

Also, yeah. And because I’m always thinking about the next thing, I haven’t had much time to look back and be proud of what I’ve accomplished thus far. But I think the younger me, who was running a forklift a few years ago, would be very pleased with what he’s accomplished. So there you have it.

We don’t get plus ones, unfortunately. So— I’m afraid I won’t be able to. My mother expressed her desire to go, but I would have accompanied her on the red carpet. But because we don’t have extra seats, it’ll just be me and my extremely white suit. No. No. I don’t like pulling out a piece of paper, so no. So I have an idea in my head of what I want to say and who I need to thank and who I want to thank, so let’s just hope it all comes together and I don’t drop the Logie and stumble over the table if that moment comes. But I believe it will be fine.

It’s a completely different experience. Sometimes you have a lot to do in a short amount of time, and other times you just have to do whatever. But, to be honest, it doesn’t bother me at all. Most of the time, I believe people are pleasant and approachable. And, yeah, I think I’m at the point where it’s not a ridiculous amount, so I’m not bothered by it and I’m happy to take photos or talk to these people or whatever. But it’s always nice because it’s like a little boost sometimes when you’re like, oh, you know, I really needed that today.

I did, after all, audition. There were a couple of callbacks as well. And it was a bit of a— I had to wait over the weekend to find out if I got the part, so there was a bit of a wait between that and that, which was amusing. I was in Palm Beach at the time. That weekend, I went to the diner with some friends in Palm Beach for lunch. Like so I was in Palm Beach at the time of like waiting for the call. I don’t sure whether that was like manifesting, but we’ll call it that maybe.

Everything. It was like— even like looking at the— you know, have a mark on the floor and then— I didn’t even know what a wide shot, mid shot, close up. I didn’t understand a word of what was said, so I was concentrating on a variety of things. Then I was trying to appear or come across as natural and like— and it was all too much for me to handle. But it was that first day that had me a little freaked out. But, thankfully, I had James Stewart and Ada Nicodemou on board to assist me— to help me get through that difficult time. But, yeah, it’s been pretty good since then.

Ray Meagher is a writer. I’m going to say Ray Meagher, but I’m not sure. I mean, they’re all such a crapshoot, so you never know. Ray Meagher, on the other hand. Vote for “Home and Away” to win Best Drama at The Logies. We all work so hard, so getting that would be fantastic. Also, please vote for Ray Meagher.
