Fans have been heartbroken since it was announced that the popular Australian serial Neighbours would be cancelled. We now know that the programme will end with a double-bill on August 1st, and we’ve been thinking about how continuing stories could be wrapped up in the lead up to the summer specials, which will see a number of past cast members reprise their beloved roles.

We’ve been thinking about what else we’d like to see happen on Ramsey Street here at RadioTimes.com. Here’s a look at how Neighbours could end, from unfinished plots to wild suggestions.

Has Dr. Karl been exposed as a liar?

Dr Karl Kennedy actor Alan Fletcher went on ITV’s This Morning in February to provide his opinions on how his character’s tale should conclude as viewers reacted to the news of Neighbours’ impending demise.

He admitted that he had concocted the idea of Karl being exposed as a doctor who had never truly qualified! Stranger things have happened in the soap business – remember Bouncer the dog’s dream scene from 1990? Knowing that we’ll shortly be saying our final goodbyes to Karl, why not let him go out with a bang?

The illness of Hendrix

Hendrix Greyson (Ben Turland) was just diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis as a result of the fire at Erinsborough High School, where the young man rushed into the burning building to save girlfriend Mackenzie Hargreaves (Georgie Stone). He was subsequently told that a lung transplant was his sole option for treatment.

We’re left wondering how Hendrix’s story will conclude as he battles to deal in the aftermath. Is it possible that Neighbours will do the unspeakable and murder him? Hendrix has only been a resident of Ramsay Street since 2019, but he’s already established himself as a fan favourite and a pivotal figure in the show. We all want to see Hendrix and Mackenzie get their happily ever after after their solid romance has warmed hearts.

However, as previously stated, we will soon have to say all of the residents farewell, so no promise of a fairytale ending for each and every one of them – no matter how much we beg!

Is David going to jail?

After revealing that he abandoned Gareth Bateman (Jack Pearson) to die at River Bend week after Gareth savagely attacked David’s husband Aaron Brennan, David Tanaka (Takaya Honda) is currently awaiting his destiny (Matt Wilson). Nurse Freya Wozniak (Phoebe Roberts), Gareth’s ex, had observed the entire episode and backed David’s decision, pushing him to remain silent in the aftermath. However, a traumatised David was unable to cope with the deception and was charged with medical manslaughter.

Aaron has encouraged David to fight for his freedom, but with his future in jeopardy, will he be imprisoned by the summer? At the very least, the doctor’s career appears to be ended, but we all hope that he won’t be separated from Aaron and their infant daughter Isla. This is the couple who tied the knot in the soap’s first ever same-sex wedding, and they’ve been through a lot together since then. Allow them to stay together, Neighbors!

Harlow is in danger

Harlow Robinson (Jemma Donovan) just confided in new pal Corey Smythe-Jones (Laurence Boxhall) about her emotions for Ned Willis, and she has been leaning on him significantly (Ben Hall). However, she will be in danger as a result of Ned’s departure. Fans are aware that Corey is a member of The Order, a cult that also included Harlow’s mother Prue (Denise Van Outen).

Corey has been working hard to keep Harlow away from her family, but her uncle David will begin to suspect something terrible in the coming weeks. When Corey realises David is on to him, he devises a new scheme to drug Harlow. Will David be able to save her, or is Harlow doomed to a bleak future as a result of her imprisonment?

Is Chloe and Elly reuniting?

Fans can’t help but wish for a romantic reunion between Elly and friend-turned-love interest Chloe now that Jodi Gordon will be returning her role as Elly Conway on Neighbours. Not to mention the fact that Chloe is currently single, but she has feelings for her new flatmate Kiri Durant (Gemma Bird Matheson).

Will Chloe go all-in with Kiri if she feels the same way, or will Elly have broken up with Shaun Watkins (Brad Moller) and be returning to see if she and Chloe can make it work this time? Of all, Elly lives on Ramsay Street with her family, so romance may not be on her mind. But wouldn’t it be wonderful to see the two reunite?

Toadie is ecstatic

Okay, it may be a little overly optimistic, but all we want is for everyone to be happy! Especially Toadie, who has been steadily improving his connection with Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden). So please, Neighbours, whatever the future holds for this marriage, spare Toadie and his family any more trouble. For years, the character has been at the centre of the show, and he is the one that everyone looks to in a crisis.

As the final curtain lowers, let’s see Toadie right in the middle of the show, surrounded by all of his old buddies. Then, even though we won’t get to witness it, we can imagine him keeping Ramsay Street running!

Kylie and Jason have the lead roles

Warning: there may be spoilers ahead

Returning superstars Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who play Charlene and Scott Robinson, are expected to say the final words in Neighbours’ closing scene. There may be some spoilers ahead: The script was leaked online, according to Metro UK, and the two, who are confirmed to return, will supposedly end the soap by pulling up at Ramsay Street, looking around, and declaring, “We’re home.”

Neighbours has yet to confirm or reject anything, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens…
