Home and Away has never claimed to be a show where every character gets a happy ending, but viewers have called the latest storylines far too “depressing”.
The Channel 7 soap opera is currently teasing an “unforgettable” two weeks of television by wrapping up several plotlines ahead of the end of the 2026 season, according to Back to the Bay.
Over the next fortnight, we could see Eden’s “heartbreaking” final days due to aplastic anaemia, as her health went downhill quickly and she hasn’t been able to find a donor.
Meanwhile, her husband, Cash, is torn between looking to soak up as much time as possible with his dying wife and trying to find some way to extend her life.
Tane is also contemplating leaving Summer Bay after seven years, as he’s struggling with being away from his son, Archie.
The show has also teased that Roo goes missing after being away for most of the year to care for a family member, and does not return when Alf Stewart expects her.
The show’s doom-and-gloom has fans questioning why they keep tuning in.
“How absolutely depressing is this show getting? I know it’s acting and a TV show, but for the fans who really love the show and have watched it for a long time, it doesn’t make you happy when so many people are dying and losing babies,” one fan said.
“What a depressing show,” another added.

“Summer Bay needs some kind of huge revamp in storyline. Same ol’ let’s kill off someone to make our viewers get traumatised, leave or come back,” another added.
But others said they couldn’t get enough and were eager to see what happens.
Home & Away typically breaks midway through November for six to eight weeks, with the final weeks of viewing often including a massive cliffhanger to ensure people tune back in when the new season launches at the start of the year.
Last year’s involved a train derailment where Jo was trapped in the carriage.
In 2024’s finale, Nerida Mullins attacked Tim and Cash, which knocked one of them unconscious.
